PD&MS is fully committed to supporting the energy transition and has made significant investment to ensure the business is well positioned to play a key role in implementing low carbon solutions across a range of sectors.
Most notably PD&MS acquired cleantech specialist engineering firm Synergie Environ Ltd (SEL) to bolster its decarbonisation capabilities and further support the energy sector’s net-zero emission ambitions. This is in addition to our established Renewables Division and our two key programmes of change: our Carbon Bubble and Green Mods initiatives.
At the core of our business is the efficient end-to-end delivery of modifications and supporting our valued clients maximise economic recovery. Green Mods is a PD&MS initiative that has transformed how modifications are delivered and is underpinned by a decade of low carbon solutions across a range of industries. Our bespoke carbon accounting tools, out the box thinking, and our engineering expertise ensures that we are best placed to support our clients maximise economic recovery whilst delivering carbon reductions across the full asset lifecycle.
We are committed to three specific internal goals that will reduce our carbon footprint.
All Direct Emissions from the activities of our organisation or under our control. Including fuel combustion on site such as gas boilers, fleet vehicles and air-conditioning leaks.
Indirect Emissions from electricity purchased and used by our organisation. Emissions are created during the production of the energy and eventually used by our organisation.
All Other Indirect Emissions from activities of our organisation, occurring from sources that we do not own or control. These are usually the greatest share of the carbon footprint, covering emissions associated with business travel, procurement, waste and water.
Our End Market Vision
We believe that direct support for new renewable energy infrastructure is one strategy available to us in our ongoing journey, yet we also recognise that a multitude of factors can influence carbon reduction. This is part of our ‘STRIVE to 35’ programme – Strategy, Transform, Reduce, Improve, Visionary Action and Emissions Elimination – which forms the basis for our energy transition plans and aligns with OGUK’s Roadmap 2035, a plan that underpins our wider strategy. We’ve also made further progress recently, with the acquisition of Synergie Environ in 2021. This cleantech business specialises in industrial process energy consumption assessment and analysis, making process and operational modification recommendations to support the target of reduced carbon emissions.
Use our Carbon Bubble approach with customers to develop and implement immediate and future improvements to support their Net Zero and carbon reduction strategies.
By leveraging the decade of low carbon solutions experience from Synergie Environ and our Renewables Service Offering, support the transformation of the energy mix by deploying our expertise and disruptive approach to the status quo, considering the needs of our customers in the immediate term and the longer-term.
Establish partnerships to support the reduction of carbon from our atmosphere. Use these partnerships and existing knowledge and experience to seek opportunity to use these technologies across existing operations.
Improve the sustainability of our technical solutions by considering the environmental impact of modifications and projects, introducing our “Green Modifications” philosophy whilst investing in new tools, systems and technology.
Clear vision aligned with industry and legislative goals to ensure we continue develop right-sized and fit for purpose tools and systems to support our customers traditional energy and alternative energy goals.
Taking a comprehensive view of across our own operations, customers and supply chain to develop new systems, technologies, working practices and partnerships to eliminate unnecessary emissions.
We are all now on a global mission towards net zero emissions by 2050. PD&MS have started their journey with the carbon bubble initiative, supporting our clients as we strive towards our industry target by 2035.
We build low carbon engineering into our modifications engineering processes, delivering carbon reductions benefits today as standard.
There are different ways to look at reducing the size of the carbon bubble. These are synergistic and operate concurrently, and at their heart is our focus today, asset efficiency.
Each carbon reduction activity has a benefit proportional to the effort required to deliver it. PD&MS focus on applying maximum efforts in the layers that provide the highest potential carbon benefit.
We are delivering these solutions today, and the below PV Solar Array Business Case Study demonstrates how a combination of carbon reduction knowledge and traditional brownfield engineering can deliver results.
